Goshen’s youngest learners began using a new media center at Marr/Cook Elementary this week, marking the completion of a major facility project.

The space previously served as the district’s central office. Following the Board of Education’s purchase and renovation of the former KinderCare facility on Patricia Blvd, district departments were relocated, clearing the path to transform the Marr/Cook space back into the library it once was.

“We’re so excited for our Marr/Cook students to enjoy this new library and to have the chance to open up other classroom space throughout our building,” said Principal Chalee Stevens. “It is a bright, welcoming space that we can’t wait for everyone to see.”

The $1.3 million renovation project — which encompassed both the media center transformation and the updates to the new Patricia Blvd. facility — was funded through the district’s Permanent Improvement (PI) fund along with dollars invested from the previous Greene property sale, requiring no additional local tax dollars.

The newly renovated media center offers flexible learning areas, a dedicated storytelling area and new furnishings.

"When we set out to address our district's growth, our top priority was returning every square foot of school space back to our students," said Superintendent Brian Bailey. "With growth continuing to come to Goshen Township, we knew we had to be creative and cost-effective.”

The district partnered with SHP Architecture and Design on both projects. A public open house of the new Marr/Cook facility will be announced at a future date.
