Start Talking! Parent Resources: How to Empower Your Child To Live a Substance Free Lifestyle
At Goshen Local Schools, we believe that student health and safety is our number one responsibility. In our nation today, adults and children are often tempted by the lure of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs. As a supporter of our community and families, our district believes it is important to provide resources for families as you support your children growing up in this world. It is sometimes very difficult to have those discussions with your children, but the research shows that young people that hear anti-drug messages from their parents, guardians, and teachers are 50% less likely to use them.
I would like to take a few moments to introduce to you a program released by the Ohio Department of Education and Governor John Kasich called Start Talking!. Start Talking! is an approach to arming parents, teachers, guardians, and students with information and resources that can help our young people in society resist the temptations of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco. One important resource that you can use as a parent are guides that are called Know Parent Tips that come out twice a month. These guides are free and they will help you keep up an ongoing conversation with your child about avoiding drugs. When you sign up, these guides come to you in an email twice a month. If you are interested in signing up, please visit http://StartTalking.Ohio.Gov .

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s principal. Once again, we want to thank you for entrusting your child’s education to our schools.
