Goshen Local School District

Monday, August 21, 2017 is almost here and as you know Goshen Local School District will be near the path of a total solar eclipse.  To celebrate this event, our PTO has purchased eclipse-safe viewing glasses for all students and staff. Our staff have been busy creating educational activities during the day and plans in each building to view the eclipse.
As always SAFTEY is a top priority at GLSD. In addition to providing the eclipse glasses, we will be engaging our students in discussions about safety precautions.  This will include warnings to not look directly at the sun.  We also encourage parents to talk with their children about the potential dangers, as students will be riding the bus home while the eclipse is occurring.
We are taking precautionary measures with our students to make this experience both safe and enjoyable. Students will not be permitted to look at the sun, or partially eclipsed sun, through unfiltered cameras, telescopes, binoculars or other optical devices , only the eclipse-safe glasses provided.
Parents also have the opportunity to opt out of the viewing experience with a signed Solar Eclipse Viewing Opt Out Form returned by Monday.  If parents wish to opt their student out we will have a planned alternative activity from inside the school building during the eclipse.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

An opt out parent signature is required by August 21,2017 if you DO NOT want you child to participate using the eclipse glasses. Students whose parents choose to opt out their child will view televised coverage and complete an alternative activity from inside the school building during the eclipse.
