2.Get your book approved by Mrs. Shagena or Mrs. Strauss.
3.Read your biography and take notes of major events in your person’s life and the date those items happen. You will need at least four major events.
4.The four major events you select will be placed on the attached cards. On each card, place the date (year) it happened, describe the event, and draw an illustration of each event.
5.Select one item you can draw which was important to your person and place that on the board also.
6.The final item to go on the board is your “People Book” person.I will help the class construct their person. Then you will need to write a paragraph of that person’s major accomplishments (what did they do in their life that made them famous).Remember a good paragraph has a topic sentence, three supporting sentences and a concluding sentence.HAVE YOUR PARAGRAPH WRITTEN AND READY TO PLACE INSIDE YOUR PEOPLE PERSON.
7.Don’t forget to put the title of the biography/
autobiography, author, illustrator, publishing company, copyright date, and your name on the front of the poster.
8.You may arrange the items in any order on your desk pad
as long as all items are included.

2.Read the book and keep notes of major events in the person’s life to illustrate on your cereal box.
3.Bring in a cereal box.(If you would like a little extra credit, you may bring in an extra box for someone who might not have one.)
4.You will be covering your cereal box with construction paper. Then you will complete the blank comic strip page attached to the project guidelines. There is an example page of what goes in each space attached also. This page goes on the front of the box.
5.On the back of the box, you may select to either design a postage stamp or a coin to celebrate one accomplishment of your person. The stamp and coin template are attached.
6.On one side panel you will list the book title, author, illustrator (if there is one), publisher, copyright date, and your name.
7.On the other side panel, you will make a timeline of the person’s life.(If the person is still alive, you will need to place an arrow at the end to show it continues.)I would recommend either labeling by ten or twenty year spans.Example:Amelia Earhart—she was born in 1897 and disappeared in 1937.Therefore, her timeline should be designed to look something like this:

Biography Scrapbook Project
Assigned on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 and due the week of October 19, 2009.
Step 1:Select a biography or autobiography to read.It must be 120 pages in length and approved before reading by Mrs. Strauss or Mrs. Shagena.
Step 2:Begin reading the book and taking notes to complete the entire scrapbook.
Step 3:When the book is completely read, begin to complete the projects in the order you feel most comfortable.Remember pages must be in order in your scrapbook. This means you may complete them in any order and then assemble in order.Remember to read the rubric (scoring guide) which each page will be graded upon as you are completing each page.
Step 4:Read this entire packet before beginning your book so you will understand your entire purpose for reading before you begin and take notes.
Scrapbook pages:
Page 1:Cover page
Design a front cover for your scrapbook. It must contain:
1.The title of the book
2.The author of the book
3.Your name
4.Pictures drawn by you which are appropriate for your person’s life you selected to read about.

_____ Had the title, author, and name on page with
correct spelling (5 points)
_____ Pages were in order (10 points)
_____ Pictures drawn for front cover were from the
person’s life (5 points)
Page 2:Portrait Page
Design and draw a portrait of the person your biography or autobiography was about. This may be from any time period in their life but you must date the approximate time period your portrait is from.(An example of this would be a biography read about Amelia Earhart and her picture was from 1928 when she returned to New York for a parade in her honor after flying from Canada across the Atlantic Ocean to Wales. Her picture would have the date 1928 under it to show that was when the portrait was drawn.Remember a portrait is usually a picture from the waist up or even higher. It may also be just the face of the person.)
Page 2 Rubric (25 points)
_____Page contains a hand-drawn portrait of the
person (15 points)
_____Picture is neat (5 points)
_____Time period from which portrait is drawn is
listed under pictures (5 points)
Page 3: Timeline of Person’s Life (or life from birth to present if not deceased)
Construct a timeline of the person’s life from birth to death with major events highlighted. If the person is still alive, begin at their birth and highlight major events until present.Remember a timeline has even intervals. An example would be to construct a timeline with each decade marked. Then events would need to be labeled. An example is listed on the following page for Amelia Earhart.Since she was born in 1897, the time line would begin with even decades or 1890.She went missing during her final flight in 1937 so the timeline would end at 1940.
Please see the example constructed after the rubric to help you.
Page 3 Rubric (50 points)
_____ Timeline has even intervals marked on it such
as decades or every five years. (25 points)
_____ Key events are correctly in order and placed in
the correct interval. (20 points)
_____ Timeline is neat.(5 points)
Page 4:Journal Entry
Write a journal entry which could have been kept in a diary by the person you read a biography on.Remember to keep in mind the time period in which the person lived and don’t forget to date your entry.
Selecting a major event or accomplishment in the person’s life would be best for this page. Then write at least one paragraph dated and detailing how the person might have felt about this accomplishment or significant event selected.
Page 4 Rubric (25 points)
_____ Journal entry has a date which is correct for
the time period in which the person lived.
(10 points)
_____ Journal entry is neat and at least one paragraph
in length. (5 points)
_____ Journal entry has correct grammar, spelling,
and punctuation. (10 points)
Page 5:Stamp or Coin
Design either a stamp or coin which we could use currently to honor the person in your biography.
The stamp should be a stamp which should be designed about the person’s entire life or a major significant event from their life.An example would be a stamp to honor Amelia Earhart which contained a picture of her and her plane from one of her flights.(Looking at a current stamp would help as far as what goes on a stamp.)
A coin would need to have both a front and back design. It needs to be either a penny, nickel, dime, quarter, or fifty-cent piece. The front needs a picture of the person from a period in their life and the amount of the coin. The reverse needs to have at least one major event drawn or could contain a series of small events.(Looking at some of the state quarters may help with this project.)It is important to remember the coin needs both a front and back which may be on the same page.
Page 5 Rubric (25 points)

coin designed to honor their biography person.
(15 points)

_____ Picture or pictures are major events in the

Page 6: Written Summary
The final page needs to be a written summary of your person’s life or life thus far if not deceased. This section must begin at the person’s birth, highlight significant (important) events, and either conclude at their death or current.
This summary should be in the form of a report which will be presented to the class. It should be a minimum of four paragraphs. You may decide to break it down into:
Paragraph 1:birth, early years, and teenage years
Paragraph 2:early adulthood
Paragraph 3:late adulthood
Paragraph 4:a summary of the major accomplishments or what you learned about the person.
If the person is still alive or quite young, you may wish to break down the paragraphs into much different sections. An example would be:

Paragraph 2:teenage years
Paragraph 3:current
Paragraph 4:Summary of what you learned about the person.
