    Class Syllabus


    Class Mission: All students improve their physical Health.

    School Mission: Our mission is to ensure that all students perform at continuously higher levels.

    Classroom Expectations & Rules

    1.Respect yourself, others, and your environment.

    2.Dress and Participate each day (athletic shorts, t-shirt, gym shoes)

    3.Be in your seat and quiet when the bell rings.

    4.Use all gym equipment in a safe and proper manner.

    Participation Policy

    Participation is the main focus in physical education.It is important that each student keeps a good attitude and gives full effort in each sport/activity. If a student does not participate, gives little effort, or has to sit out because of safety or behavioral issues, 10 points will be deducted from the student’s grade and an alternative activity may be assigned.

    Grading Policy

    Each student is awarded 10 points each day for dressing out and participating.Each time a student does not dress out or participate, 10 points will be deducted as well as an alternative assignment may be assigned.

    Behavior or Safety Concerns

    Students will be removed from activities and receive demerits for safety or behavioral issues. Parents will be contacted if students are removed from class.

    Dress Out

    Students are required to have gym shoes, shorts or warm-up pants, and a t-shirt for gym each day. If the student does not dress appropriately for physical education class he or she will receive a dress cut and loss their daily class points.

    1st dress cut= free

    2nd& 3rd dress cut = daily point loss

    4th dress cut= daily point loss and Parent Contact – Letter sent home with parent signature required.

    5th, 6th,7thdress cut =daily point loss

    8th dress cut = daily point loss – Lunch Detention – Parent Contact – phone call, Administration meets with team/student

    9th dress cut = daily points loss

    10th dress cut= daily point loss - Office Referral


    Handbook Policy

    Goshen Middle School students may be required to take Physical Education each day for one semester.Students are required to have gym shoes, white socks, shorts, or warm-up pants, and t-shirt.It is suggested that gym clothes be taken home each week.Students are required to dress out for gym class each day even if they do not take gym that day.Students can be excused from Phys. Ed. for a day for injury or illness with a note from a parent or guardian.If a student cannot take Phys. Ed. for extended period of time, a doctor’s excuse will be required.

    Gym Lockers and Locker Room Policy

    Students are not to use locks on the gym lockers.There are not enough lockers for each student therefore students should keep all valuables (money, jewelry, purses, etc.) in their individual hallway lockers.The school is not responsible for any missing items during gym class.All students are instructed to keep valuables locked up in their hallway lockers and to not bring them to gym class.

    Furthermore, it is a privilege for students to use the locker rooms to change for gym class.If there is any inappropriate behavior or damage to the locker rooms that privilege may be taken away.

    National Standards and Course Goals

    Physical activity is critical to the development and maintenance of good health. The goal of physical education is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. A physically educated person:

    Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.

    Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

    Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity.

    Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

    Standard 5: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.

    Standard 6: Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.

    Students will participate in various team and individual sport/activities during the semester.Some examples of these sports are:
