This site is used every other Monday in class (and can be used at home, as long as students remember their login and password) to refreshen their science knowledge. This can also give parents a glimpse of what kinds of questions are on the OAA's!

What are we doing in 8th Grade Science? As always, to look at grades, check homework assignments, and when tests and quizzes are going to be given, check Progress Book.
Week of 2/6/12 -
As many of you have probably seen in Progress Book, the grade for our 2nd Quarter Common Assessment has not been entered. Due to unforseen difficulties with my online grading software, I have been unable to scan the 24 multiple choice answers. Please be assured, this will be fixed in the near future. Meanwhile, this week, we will be discussing the reasons we see different phases of the moon, what the arrangement of the sun, Earth, and moon need to be in order for lunar and solar eclipses to take place, and why the ocean water periodically rises and falls.

Week of 1/30/12 -
We will be picking up where we left off last week. Because of the Math Common Assessment on Friday, many classes were not able to work on our Seasons Writing Project. Therefore, today (Monday) will be the last day we will be working on it in class, and they will have an official due date of tomorrow (Tuesday) at the beginning of the period. Tuesday, we will move on to our next topic, Gravity. Specifically, we will look at why the Earth stays in a nearly circular orbit around the Sun and the Moon in a nearly circular orbit around the Earth. Students will complete a variety of short activities that will result in the "Gravity and Motion Project". Friday, we will preview Phases of the Moon, Lunar and Solar Eclipses, and High and Low Tides with a Bill Nye video.

Week of 1/23/12 -
This week we will begin to explore Astronomy content. Students will begin by previewing the Astronomy books and completing a few simple tasks related to the motions of the Earth, which cause day and night as well as the seasons we experience. Students will spend the last half of the week completing a Seasons Writing Project. This project will integrate the things students do during the four seasons with the scientific principles of each season.

Week of 1/16/12 -
Welcome to the beginning of the 3rd Quarter! It is hard to believe the school year is halfway over already! This week, we are checking student progress with our Pro-Ohio B written tests in all core areas. This means students will be locked down from 7:45am - 10:25am for testing each day this week. The science common assessment (which will count as a grade and be the first grade of the third quarter) will be given after the Pro-Ohio on Thursday. This test will cover everything we learned in the second quarter (Life Sciences). Because of testing, all classes will only be roughly 20 minutes in length. This provides a great opportunity to put to use the Current Science magazines in which some of your child's school fees went towards. We will be looking at one article per day and discussing its importance. There are no formal grades this week, only participation grades for the Current Science discussion. Have a great week!
