    *Boys Varsity Assistant Basketball coach 13 years
    *13th year of teaching in the Goshen School District

    GENERAL COURSE INFORMATION:

    6th Grade math establishes the groundwork for the future work in 7th grade math and Pre-Algebra. For each topic, students will work on mastering the skills necessary for problem solving, understanding the principles behind mathematics, applying mathematics in real situations, and representing the concepts with pictures, graphs or objects.

    TOPICS COVERED:

    - Developing problem solving strategies
    - Manipulating with decimals
    - Learning statistics and data analysis
    - Recognizing patterns and numbers
    - Solving with fractions
    - Developing algebraic concepts
    - Using and understanding integers
    - Understanding geometric concepts
    - Calculating area and perimeters
    - Understanding surface area and volume
    - Solving ratio, proportion, and percent problems
    - Computing with percents
    - Understanding and using of measurements
    - Utilizing and creating graphs for various purposes

    Parents can monitor student progress and homework assignments on Progressbook. If you need assistance with logging in to Progressbook, please contact the office at 722-2226.

    Students will be using Pro-Ohio to practice for the Ohio Achievement Assessments. Students have their own loggin in information.

    Classroom Discipline Procedure:
    1st incident = check in behavior folder as warning
    2nd incident = second check - demerit
    3rd incident = 3 checks - 2 demerits
    4th incident = 4 checks - 3 demerits and parent contact
    * Checks accumulate for the day. Students start with clean slate each day.


    GRADING:

    Students will receive a quarterly grade on their report cards for this course. Students will be graded on homework, class projects, quizzes, and tests. The school grading scale in the student agenda will be followed. For every project the students will be provided a rubric so that they know exactly what is expected and the date the assignment is due.

    SUPPLIES:

    . The current text, Everyday Mathematics
    . 3 ring binder 1” preferred
    . 1 one subject notebook
    . Pencils (All work should be done in pencil)
    . Red Ink Pen for grading
    . Loose leaf paper
