    ENGLISH 9 HONORS SYLLABUS 2011-2012

    COURSE OVERVIEW: English 9 Honors is designed to prepare students for tenth grade English and the OGT by exploring high school level writing, vocabulary, research, literature, and independent reading. An emphasis will be placed on preparing for the Ohio Graduation Tests in Reading and Writing. This course covers all nine standards in the State of Ohio content standards with an emphasis on Reading of Literary Text and the Writing Process. The class is one year long, and a maximum of one English credit may be earned, .5 credit will be earned per semester. Graded work is given back to students in the sequential trays at the back of the room.


    GRADING: Grades are earned by participation, timely completion of work, and accuracy of work. Point values are given for all assignments. If you are caught cheating or plagiarizing on any assignment (tests, class work, projects, or research papers), YOU WILL BE GIVEN A ZERO!

    LATE WORK POLICY: Late work is accepted in the first quarter only. I allow students to ease themselves in to high school work in this way, but only for the first nine weeks. For make-up work policy, please see the student handbook.

    Response to text essays at least once each quarter

    Multiple writing assignments
    Vocabulary tests periodically
    Business writing
    Informational and persuasive presentations

    Historical research project

    TEST MAKEUP: Within one week of the original test, or no credit will be given. Exceptions will be made for long- term illnesses. Tests will be made up during silent reading time on Fridays in class.
