    Drawing I

    Back to Mr. Siefert

The purpose of this class is to teach students the basic skill in seeing and drawing. Learning to draw is more than learning the skill itself; by taking this class and participating in the drawing excercises students will learn how to see and process visual information in the special way used by artists.

Students assignments wil be assessed on the following: fulfillment of requirements, effort, design/preparation work, creativity/originality, and craftsmanship.

    Before After
Our first assignment is to draw our self-portrait. This drawing is made with little or no help from the teacher, so the student can have a record of their present drawing skills. At the end of the semester we do another self-portrait but this time students use all the knowledge learned in the course to create it. When our final self-portrait project is complete I give them back their first self-portrait they did at the beginning of the year and we compare the two. The students are amazed at their progress and can't believe how much they have learned. I look forward to seeing the students reactions to this assignment each year.
